One Very Happy Client!

One very happy client! At Happy Feet Pedorthics we see people who have had polio as a child and now have a condition called PPS – Post Polio Syndrome. Many people with the late effects of polio do have foot problems – some mild and some more severe.

One very happy client! At Happy Feet Pedorthics we see people who have had polio as a child and now have a condition called PPS – Post Polio Syndrome. Many people with the late effects of polio do have foot problems – some mild and some more severe. Partial paralysis can create a muscular imbalance between opposing muscle groups of the foot and ankle which can lead to a pes planus or pes cavus foot, abnormal pronation or supination and other gait abnormalities. Other problems can ensue such as calluses, corns, hammer toes or hallux valgus.

Pedorthically the aim is for proper fitting, supportive footwear and or orthoses which is accommodative and not corrective, both of which give the client more comfort. The shoes above is what a recent client presented with.

More specifically we want the shoes to have the following features:

  • Lace up or velcro closing to prevent the foot from sliding in the shoe
  • Good arch support
  • Long firm heal counter to stabilize the foot when turning and pivoting
  • A firm sole to act as a shock absorber when walking
  • Low heel with less pressure on the metatarsal heads
  • A wide deep toe box for the toes not to be irritated and to accommodate the width of the foot

The shoes above have been made for the client’s feet, and at first fit she was one very happy person. Shoes which fitted her feet, comfortable, no pain, more safety in walking and styly look!

Thanks to the team who made it happen!
